The creative Japanese paper using "Genuine Mino paper," which is fostered by a long history with tradition produces the products as a modern light and informs Japanese modest culture to the world.
"Authentic Mino-paper" is the Japanese paper with highest quality among Mino-paper which is designated the important national treasure in Japan.
Hand strained Mino-paper has a long history: it was between the end of Heian-era and the beginning of Kamakura-era (about 12th century,) when paper making technique came to the Mino area. Later in Edo era (17th century), various kinds of papers such as writing paper, paper for sliding door, were made. The paper for sliding door became famous nation wide, because of the strength and good quality. However, Japanese paper had faded when inexpensive, machine-made western paper was introduced in the Meiji era (20th century,) and Japanese paper also had been changed to modern ways.
However, many people love Japanese paper made by traditional method using traditional tools. It attract people with it's superb quality and profound taste. The paper made by traditional way is called "Hon Mino-gami" which means authentic Mino-paper. The Hon Mino-gami preservation organization is designated as "intangible cultural properties" important national treasure". The organization is working to preserve technology and traditions.
