This is original Maki-e fountain pen based on Namiki Urushi Emperor size Black.

The first step: Work on the ground
- Burnish the entire surface of the fountain pen and paint a black urushi lacquer on the to do the base work.
- Sprinkle Gold round, flake or Nashiji powder on a cap, barrel and grip section, and then dry it.
- After drying, paint urushi lacquer on gold powder and fix them.
- After fixing, burnish the entire gold surface and finish it.
- Polish the entire surface.

The second step: Painting Maki-e
- Sketch the design on the entire surface.
- Sprinkle gold powder #7 to express “Haze” on the cap and finish with flake gold powder.
- Sprinkle gold powder #3 for Ume blossoms and twigs.
- Sprinkle gold powder #7 to paint the bridge on the barrel, fix and finish it.
- Raise the lady on the barrel, sprinkle gold powder #8, fix it and then paint color urushi lacquer.
- Dry it.
- After drying, burnish and finish it.
- Burnish the entire surface and polish gold and urushi
- Paint black urushi lacquer and polish it. The production days: About 4 months

Togidashi Maki-e (Mainly used for finishing evenly the background)
- Urushi lacquer
- Sprinkle Gold powder, Seikin: Alloy of Gold, Silver powder, Hirame and so on
- Coated thickly by Nashiji and Black urushi
- Burnished the urushi lacquer by charcoal
- Polish by polishing and grindstone powders
- When coarse gold/silver/Hirame/Seikin powders are sprinkled, put a luster by burnished.
- After togidashi maki-e, Togidashi Hira maki-e is decorated Hira maki-e on togidashi maki-e.
- After togidashi maki-e, Togidashi Taka maki-e is decorated Taka maki-e on togidashi maki-e.
- Burnishing is needed when coarse powders are sprinkled.
